Privacy policy

Pianovera app (Android: com.pianovera.app · Windows) and the pianovera.com website — effective 23 August 2026

In short

The Pianovera app collects no personal data. There is no account, no adverts, no analytics and no third-party SDKs. It runs offline, with one exception described below: the public pianos map.

The pianovera.com website, however, shows adverts served by Google AdSense, which set cookies. This page keeps the two apart: the sections below cover the app, except “Advertising on the website”, which covers the website.

Publisher and contact

Pianovera is published by Stéphane Cardon.
For any question about this policy or about your data: stephane.cardon33@gmail.com.

Data we collect

None. We do not gather, transmit or store any information about you on any server: no identity, no email address, no device identifier, no location, no contacts, no photos, no usage statistics, no advertising ID.

Data kept on your device

So that the app can work, some information is saved locally, on your device only, inside the app's private storage:

  • your settings (theme, audio sync, display options);
  • your progress (pieces played, accuracy, experience points);
  • the list of MIDI files you opened recently.

This information never leaves the device and is entirely inaccessible to us. Uninstalling the app deletes it permanently; you can also clear it at any time from Android settings (Apps → Pianovera → Storage → Clear data).

Files you open

When you open a MIDI file, it is read on your device to be displayed and played. It is never copied, analysed or sent anywhere. The fifty pieces in the library ship inside the app, so browsing them triggers no connection at all.

Android permissions

The app declares a single permission, INTERNET, required by the system component that renders the interface. It is never used to send any data. No sensitive permission is requested: no location, no microphone, no camera, no contacts, no personal files.

Sharing with third parties

We share, sell and rent no data, because we hold none. The app contains no ad network, no analytics tool and no external sign-in service.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages and collects no data, including from children under thirteen.

Purchases

The Android version is free. On Windows, buying a licence happens on our reseller's website, which handles the payment itself: we never see your card details and the app never handles them.

Public pianos map (app)

This is the only feature of the app that needs a connection. When you open the “Public pianos” tab:

  • the app queries pianovera.com to fetch the list of pianos;
  • it downloads map tiles from OpenStreetMap. As with any internet request, those servers see your IP address;
  • if you ask it to, the app reads your approximate location (Android “approximate location” permission) purely to centre the map and sort pianos by distance. That location stays on your device: it is never stored or transmitted, to us or to anyone. You can decline: the map still works by hand;
  • if you report a piano, only the place, its description and the nickname you choose are sent, then checked by hand before publication.

Every other feature — playback, exercises, progress, MIDI input, video export — keeps working with no connection at all.

Advertising on pianovera.com

This section applies to the website only. The app itself shows no adverts.

The site serves adverts through Google AdSense. As a result:

  • Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites;
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your browsing;
  • you can turn off personalised advertising in your Google Ads settings;
  • for other ad networks, aboutads.info/choices lets you opt out;
  • you can also block cookies in your browser settings — the site remains usable.

The site uses no other tracker: no analytics, no social widgets, no tracking pixels.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with an updated date. Since the app collects nothing, no change can retroactively affect data already gathered.
